High Cholesterol

I have high cholesterol. She gave me a list of numbers and I have no idea what they mean other than my good cholesterol is too low and my bad cholesterol is too high. I asked the nurse if I would die of a heart attack between now and when I go in to talk to my doctor about it and she said no, it wasn't that bad. I have always said that if I had a medical issue I would be much better about exercise and diet - meaning, I am a good patient. Whatever my doctor tells me to do I will do, so if I were to be allergic to sugar, I would never eat it again. That day has come, I have now officially been diagnosed with a problem due to my bad habits. I don't want to die young and I don't want heart disease. So it is time to get my arse in gear and get in shape. 2010 will be the year of getting healthy. No more snacking at night. No more desserts. No more not working out. I plan to beat this cholesterol thing with no drugs - good diet, good exercise, and good behavior.

Back on the Diet

So - I'm back on the diet. After the summer off and then lazily through September - back on. I lost 6 pounds this week, which is pretty good. I imagine I will not maintain that level of loss but hopefully I can get myself into my skinny jeans (well - what would have been my fat jeans in college but now are my skinny jeans) by Christmas.

I also am very cranky when I'm dieting - which apparently amuses my husband no end. Bastard.

Good Day Yesterday

I am trying to lose weight. Other than those four years in high school and the other four years in college, during which time I was very thin because I was working out constantly, I have been trying to lose weight my whole life. I am incorporating working out, trying to emulate what I had while in college and high school, and I am doing weight watchers. I have lost 10% of my body weight, which is the first big goal when you are losing weight. My next goal is to act as though I have just started weight watchers and lose another 10%. From there another 10%, and then another 10% and then I will be as thin as I was in college...odds of my getting there, pretty slim, but those are the goals.

I am pretty proud of myself and feeling good about my progress. It's slow, but I don't see weight watchers as a six month diet, I see it as a way of life and I have no deadlines for getting healthy. Every day that I choose good foods and see a little loss is a healthy day, and that's a good day.

The Juice

On New Year's I decided to drop the juice. I am no longer drinking diet coke. For those of you who know me, you understand this is my one vice (other than eating too much dessert) so this is a big deal. On January 2nd I called a friend who I know doesn't drink soda and I said, what do you drink? She said water, lots of water. I've stuck to it, basically because I won't let Elizabeth have soda and it doesn't seem fair to me that she can't and I can. If I am going to make healthy food choices for my daughter (and hopefully spare her the years of weight battle I have been engaged in) then I need to also make them for myself. I had crazy headaches for the first 3 days, one was so bad I had to nap through it to survive. I've been drinking ounces and ounces of water.

Interestingly, today when I hopped on the scale I had dropped 4 lbs since Tuesday. If it is the case that diet coke makes it more difficult to lose weight, I will be really pissed. The only reason I drink it is because when I was a young dieter I needed something I could order out with friends that had no calories. But it feels good, so no more diet coke!

Mushroom Pizza

As you may know I am back on the WW. I have lost 15 lbs since September 6th, which is when I started. I kind of took a break during October, but now I'm back on it. I'm starving. STARVING!!! I just had a lean cuisine mushroom pizza that was gross. YUCK. I really hope for Elizabeth's sake she can eat whatever the heck she wants to her whole life, like her dad.

If I Write it on my Blog, It'll Come True

I pledge that by the end of this school year I will be able to shop again at Express and wear their clothes.

Fat Jeans

The Princess joined us almost seven weeks ago now. And for five weeks before that I was on bed rest due to some parasite related issues. Needless to say I haven't worked out in some time. But yesterday I was able to get in to my fat jeans. On the one hand this is good. I can wear jeans with a button without that pregnancy panel. On the other hand, this demonstrates just how fat I can get.

Thus I am on a diet. Again. And I am hungry.

Late Nights With the Princess

The Princess and I do a late night shift together. We sit up and watch bad television while we decide whether it might be fun to go to sleep. Generally we choose not to sleep too early. Maintaining this while also maintaining a full time job, community service, friendships, etc etc is rather difficult. It is worth it, but rather difficult. The Princess is definitely worth it.

But, a few days ago I began a diet. This was much more fun when I could chow down on candy while pulling the night shift. It's a lot harder with celery.
